Ensuring Quality and Safety is a Responsibility We Take to Heart

Our Supplement Manufacturing Process Protects Nutrients at Every Step

Dr. Royal Lee, founder of Standard Process, said, “Whole foods are the best natural source of vitamins. The key to the highest quality is the manufacturing process.” That’s why our manufacturing process, from raw materials to finished product, is engineered to preserve the whole food ingredients in our supplements. Throughout the process, raw materials and finished products are tested to ensure they meet our high quality standards.

From Our Farm to Your Door We Ensure Quality with Our Vertical Integration

Because we grow the majority of our ingredients for our supplements on our own certified organic farm, we have control over the quality in a way that few others in the industry do. Plants are harvested less than two miles from our production facility and begin the transformation to a whole food-based supplement the day of harvest.

We apply approximately 500,000 pounds of our own organic farm compost each year – in addition to millions of pounds of manure-free fertilizer (only organic food matter).

Farming Method

All food we grow begins its processing journey on the day of harvest. We process hundreds of thousands of gallons of extract in the pressroom and approximately a million pounds in the drier.

Processing

Our Quality Control team has put stringent quality audit and testing procedures in place. All raw materials and finished goods are tested for potency, purity, and adulterants.

Quality Control

“The key to the highest quality is the manufacturing process.” – Dr. Royal LeeWe honor his legacy with our greatest asset “our people,” well-defined processes and a world-class manufacturing facility.

Manufacturing

We ship our orders the same day if placed by 3 p.m. and have strategically positioned distribution centers across the country to ensure two-day ground shipping delivery – a greener way than two-day air.

Manufacturing the way it was meant to be. Standard Process is proud to have our manufacturing processes certified as organic.

Nutrient Extraction

Juice Extraction

To capture the nutrients from raw materials, such as buckwheat, alfalfa, and pea vine, the juice is pressed from the plants and separated from the pulp. The result is a concentrated extract containing both fat- and water-soluble nutrients.

Protomorphogen™ and Cytosol™ Extracts

Selected animal tissue used to make our Protomorphogen™ and Cytosol™ extracts are USDA-approved, from facilities inspected by the USDA or the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA.

Drying

Our team of scientists and engineers researched and tested multiple drying technologies. Based on this research, we have installed multiple drying technologies to preserve raw material nutrients.

Isolated Production

We use isolated suites in all of the following processes to enhance cleanliness and reduce the risk of cross-contamination in the manufacturing area.

Mixing

Standard Process employees carefully measure and mix raw materials. Because of the variability in natural ingredients, color may vary from batch to batch. No artificial colors are ever used and the basic formula remains the same.

Binding and Processing Aids

After mixing, our fluid bed granulator is used to add natural binding ingredients, such as honey and arabic gum, to the product batch for tableting. No artificial flavoring is ever used.

Tableting, Capsuling, and Powders

Our supplements are offered in several forms of delivery. The most common are tablets, capsules, softgels, and powders.

Finished Products

Our employees and processes allow for high volume production without sacrificing quality control. All of our finished products are routinely tested to ensure product safety and that label claims are met.

Delivery Preparation

Standard Process Manufacturing

Packaging

Our products are packaged in amber bottles. The color of the bottle protects the whole food-based nutrients from damaging light. Bottles are sealed and neck banded to guard against product tampering. The bottled product is then placed in a cardboard carton to further protect from light and provides for easy storage, protection, and shipping.

Distribution and Shipping

Standard Process has invested in multiple distribution centers throughout the United States that allow for two-day, or less, delivery to approximately 98% of our customers. If you place your order by 3 p.m., our team will do everything possible to ship it the same day – they rarely miss. Our team likes to say “from seed to your door.”

Quality Control

We Had Standards Before There Were Standards

To assure our customers receive the highest quality products, we have set very strict quality guidelines for ourselves. Since the good manufacturing practices (GMPs) for dietary supplements were published in 2007, many companies began to look at quality the way that we have been doing for decades. Our quality control unit, including our team of highly trained scientists, ensures our label claims are met and testing is performed after critical stages of production to confirm our products are free of bacterial contamination. Additionally, shelf-life studies are conducted on each product to make certain that label claims are met throughout the life of the product.

Quality Assurance

We use high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) to identify incoming raw materials and in-process materials and qualify them based on consistency, potency, and purity. HPTLC is used to create a unique banding pattern, or “fingerprint,” by isolating key chemical constituents to aid in identification of these materials.

Testing

Each batch is tested four times. Every week, our scientists in our full-scale quality control laboratory run as many as 2,100 tests on raw materials, in-process product batches, and finished product. We use analytical methods approved by nationally recognized evaluative bodies, including the Association of Analytical Communities (AOAC) and United States Pharmacopeia (USP).

Quality Audits

We work very closely with our suppliers, using a questionnaire for qualification and an auditing program designed to ensure quality. Planned site visits are conducted 12-14 times per year based on risk analysis. In addition, our purchasing department evaluates on-time delivery, customer service, invoicing, and more.

Sanitation

We believe there are no shortcuts when it comes to quality and safety, and we keep our facility in pristine condition. In between product runs, our equipment is taken apart, cleaned, and sanitized. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) testing is used to validate the effectiveness of our cleaning process. Then, we clean the surrounding production suite, including floors, walls, and vent covers. This is all in addition to our routine monitoring.
